DyNAMITE

SCIFLIā€™s primary in-flight imaging system is DyNAMITE, or Day Night Airborne Motion Imagery for Terrestrial Environments. It is a NASA owned full-motion sensor system that can be mounted on the nose of the WB-57 aircraft. DyNAMITE uses refractive optics, allowing for a continuous zoom. It can capture still and video full-color HD imagery using its two independent video camera systems. In the visual spectrum, DyNAMITE can document important events such as parachute deployment and tests of in-flight abort systems. Using its infrared capabilities, along with additional image processing, SCIFLI can take calibrated thermal data to estimate temperature. The system is controlled by a dedicated operator in the rear cockpit of the WB-57.
