MLAS

The HYTHIRM team was employed in a unique manner to obtain ultra-high resolution imagery for the NASA Max Launch Abort System (MLAS) test flight at the NASA Wallops Flight test facility.  The goal was to observe the separation between the forward fairing and the crew module simulator in order to see if any undesired contact occurred, view the parachute deployments, and see the splashdown.

The team employed a MARS mobile land based telescope for this mission.  The telescope was set up two days before the flight, and included visual and infrared cameras.  The MARS system successfully obtained the high resolution imagery desired, completing three fun and fascinating days on the Virginia shore.
